They survived by hunting deer and robbing travellers on the highways. Among them, the most famous was Robin Hood, leader of a band of outlaws who made Sherwood Forest their home. His name struck fear into the hearts of wealthy travellers, yet he was deeply loved by the poor. He protected them from cruel landlords and often shared his wealth with those in need.
